Overview

Your website should not only show information.

It should help visitors take action.

That action can be simple:

  • Call you
  • Send an email
  • Open WhatsApp
  • Find your location
  • Visit your Instagram
  • Go to another page
  • Download a file
  • Book a meeting
  • Pay online

In NeoWeb, you can do this using the Link Destination settings inside your website editor.

You do not need coding.

You only need to choose where the button, text, icon, or image should lead.

Quick Link Setup Table

Before we explain each link type in detail, here is a quick table you can use when editing your website in NeoWeb.

This table shows which Link Destination to choose, what to paste into the Link field, and when to use Open in new tab.

The simple rule is:

Use Internal when the visitor should stay inside your website.

Use External when the visitor should open another app, platform, file, or website.

Use None when the element should not be clickable.

Now let's look at each option in more detail and understand how to use it correctly.

What is a link destination?

A link destination tells NeoWeb what should happen when someone clicks a button, text, icon, or image.

For example:

A Call Now button can open the phone app.

A Contact Us button can open WhatsApp.

A View Location button can open Google Maps.

A See Pricing button can move the visitor to your pricing section.

This helps your website become easier to use and more useful for your clients.

The three main link options in NeoWeb

In the editor, you can usually choose between three options:

OptionWhat it meansWhen to use it
NoneThe element is not clickableFor decorative buttons, icons, or text
ExternalOpens something outside your websitePhone, email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Google Maps, payment links
InternalOpens something inside your websiteAnother page or another section on the same page

Most client actions use External.

Most website navigation uses Internal.

1. Use “None” when nothing should open

Choose None when the button, icon, or text is only visual and does not need to be clickable.

Example:

  • A decorative icon
  • A label
  • A section title
  • A design element

This keeps your website clean and prevents visitors from clicking something that does nothing useful.

2. Use “Internal” for pages and sections inside your website

Use Internal when you want to send visitors to another part of your own website.

Examples:

ActionLink example
Go to Contact section#contact
Go to Pricing section#pricing
Go to FAQ section#faq
Open About page/about
Open Services page/services
Open Contact page/contact

Internal links are useful because they help visitors move through your website faster.

For example, your homepage can have a button:

View Services

And that button can lead directly to:

#services

So the visitor does not need to scroll manually.

3. Use “External” for calls, emails, WhatsApp, maps, and social links

Use External when the click should open something outside your website.

This includes:

  • Phone calls
  • Email
  • WhatsApp
  • Telegram
  • Google Maps
  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Payment pages
  • PDF files
  • Booking links

Here are the most useful external link examples.

Phone call link

Use this when you want visitors to call you directly from the website.

FieldExample
Link DestinationExternal
Linktel:+37499123456
Open in new tabNo

Example:

tel:+37499123456

Use the full phone number with the country code.

Good format:

tel:+37499123456

Avoid spaces, brackets, and extra symbols.

Email link

Use this when you want visitors to send you an email.

FieldExample
Link DestinationExternal
Linkmailto:hello@neoweb.ai
Open in new tabNo

Simple email link:

mailto:hello@neoweb.ai

Email with subject:

mailto:hello@neoweb.ai?subject=Website%20Inquiry

Email with subject and message:

mailto:hello@neoweb.ai?subject=Website%20Inquiry&body=Hello%2C%20I%20want%20to%20create%20a%20website

This is useful when you want to make the first message easier for your client.

For example, when they click Request Website, their email app can open with a ready subject.

WhatsApp link

Use this when you want visitors to message you on WhatsApp.

FieldExample
Link DestinationExternal
Linkhttps://wa.me/37499123456
Open in new tabOptional

Simple WhatsApp link:

https://wa.me/37499123456

WhatsApp link with ready message:

https://wa.me/37499123456?text=Hello%2C%20I%20am%20interested%20in%20your%20services

This is one of the best options for service businesses, restaurants, beauty salons, clinics, real estate agents, consultants, and local businesses.

It reduces friction because the client does not need to copy your number.

They click once and start the conversation.

Telegram link

Use this when you want visitors to open your Telegram profile, channel, group, or bot.

FieldExample
Link DestinationExternal
Linkhttps://t.me/yourusername
Open in new tabYes

Example:

https://t.me/neowebai

Telegram is useful for communities, support, announcements, private consultations, and service-based communication.

SMS link

Use this when you want visitors to send an SMS.

FieldExample
Link DestinationExternal
Linksms:+37499123456
Open in new tabNo

Example:

sms:+37499123456

You can also add a ready message:

sms:+37499123456?body=Hello%2C%20I%20am%20interested

SMS message text may work differently on different phones, so the safest version is only the phone number.

Google Maps link

Use this when you want visitors to find your physical location.

FieldExample
Link DestinationExternal
LinkGoogle Maps link
Open in new tabYes

Search by address:

https://www.google.com/maps/search/?api=1&query=Yerevan%20Armenia

Open directions:

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/?api=1&destination=Yerevan%20Armenia

Use this for:

  • Restaurants
  • Hotels
  • Clinics
  • Beauty salons
  • Gyms
  • Schools
  • Retail stores
  • Offices
  • Showrooms

A Get Directions button can make it much easier for clients to visit you.

Social media links

Use External for social media links.

PlatformExample
Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/yourusername/
Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/yourpage
LinkedInhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/yourcompany/
TikTokhttps://www.tiktok.com/@yourusername
YouTubehttps://www.youtube.com/@yourchannel
X / Twitterhttps://x.com/yourusername

For social links, it is usually better to turn on Open in new tab.

This way, your website stays open while the visitor checks your social page.

File and PDF links

You can also link to files such as:

  • Menus
  • Catalogs
  • Price lists
  • Presentations
  • Brochures
  • Portfolios
  • Documents

Example:

https://example.com/catalog.pdf

Or, if the file is inside your website:

/files/catalog.pdf

For files, it is usually better to enable Open in new tab.

This helps visitors view the file without leaving your website completely.

Payment and booking links

If your business uses online payment or booking tools, you can also connect them to buttons.

Examples:

Use caseExample
Payment pagehttps://buy.stripe.com/example
PayPalhttps://www.paypal.com/paypalme/username
Booking pagehttps://calendly.com/yourname/demo
Reservation pagehttps://example.com/book

Use these for buttons like:

  • Book Now
  • Pay Online
  • Reserve a Table
  • Schedule a Call
  • Buy Ticket
  • Start Consultation

For payment and booking links, use External and enable Open in new tab.

When should you enable “Open in new tab”?

Use this simple rule:

Link typeOpen in new tab?
Internal pageNo
Same-page sectionNo
Phone callNo
EmailNo
WhatsAppOptional
TelegramOptional
Social mediaYes
Google MapsYes
PDF or fileYes
Payment pageYes
Booking pageYes
External websiteYes

The goal is simple.

If the link keeps the visitor inside your website, do not open a new tab.

If the link sends the visitor to another website or platform, open a new tab.

How to write special characters inside links

Some links use ready messages, email subjects, or addresses. In these cases, spaces and symbols should be written in a special format.

Here are the most common ones:

CharacterUse this
Space%20
Comma%2C
Line break%0D%0A
:%3A
/%2F
&%26

Example:

Instead of writing:

Hello, I want a website

Use:

Hello%2C%20I%20want%20a%20website

This helps the link work correctly.

Why smart links matter

A good website should not make visitors think too much.

If they want to call, the button should call.

If they want to message, the button should open WhatsApp.

If they want to visit, the button should open maps.

If they want to learn more, the button should move them to the right section.

Small details like this make your website feel easier, faster, and more professional.

Final tip

Before publishing your website, test every important button from your phone.

Check:

  • Does the phone button open the call app?
  • Does the email button open the email app?
  • Does WhatsApp open the right chat?
  • Does the map link open the correct location?
  • Do internal buttons move to the correct section?
  • Do social links open the correct profile?

Your website is not only about design.

It is about helping clients take the next step.

With NeoWeb, you can connect each button, icon, and section to the right action without coding.
